YASENSE™ ML

YASENSE IS A TOOL SUITE FOR SOFT SENSOR DEVELOPMENT, DEPLOYMENT AND MONITORING

Soft sensors, also known as surrogate sensors, proxy sensors, inferential models, virtual sensors or simply predictive models, are computer models that calculate estimates of physical sensor measurements or lab measurements, based on other variables that can be more easily and/or more frequently measured.

They are a valuable solution for the following issues with classical measurement instruments:
  • Lack of appropriate, reliable, affordable and frequently on-line instrumentation
  • Laboratory measurements are often done infrequently and irregularly with long analysis delays (e.g. lab measurement of paper moisture and ash content) and with expensive equipment with a high operational cost
  • On-line sensors may suffer from long measurement delays  (e.g. gas chromatograph) and are not always reliable, e.g. they may produce wrong measurements in the first minutes after start-up, or may suffer from drifts, condensation and fouling.
  • Physical sensors and process analyzers are sometimes put off-line for maintenance service, and may fail from time to time.

In all these cases, soft sensors can be a good alternative or addition to physical sensors.

Soft sensor software and solutions

Soft sensor development and integration requires skilled professionals supported by powerful tools. That is why we offer soft sensor development as a service to our customers. That is also why we have created the YASENSE product family to make that service efficient and effective.

YASENSE is a product family that consists of three different types of tools:
  • YASENSE Development: a tool suite for data preparation (importing, cleaning, filtering, annotation etc.), soft sensor training (various types of machine learning algorithms to learn computer models from data as well as components to build white box computer models), and soft sensor validation. This tool suite is used by Yazzoom in projects involving soft sensor development, but is not delivered to customers. We support both black box models as white box models (also know as first principles models) and the combination of both techniques in gray box models.
  • YASENSE Run-time: a customizable software that in deployed at our customers. It runs on an (embedded, industrial or regular) PC. It reads process and other data that serves as input for the soft sensor model (typically through OPC), computes the soft sensor output(s) and publishes those on a computer network (typically to a DCS/PLC over OPC).
  • YASENSE Monitor: a customizable software that is deployed at our customers. It monitors the state and performance of the Yasense run-time, the soft sensor model(s) and their inputs. It produces configurable alerts (SMS or email) and summary and detailed reports. .
